On November 5th Powderkeg will officially be ten!
We’re going to take you back to the beginning, as we indulge in a little bit of nostalgia, for the time back when we didn’t know how effing hard it is to run your own brewery!!
We registered our name on the 5th of November 2014, because obviously that’s the perfect birthday for a business called Powderkeg that wants to start a (beer) revolution.
Our business plan and branding was already well under way, and it wasn’t long before we were standing in a cold, empty industrial unit in the Devon countryside, ready to start the hard work of building a brewery. Look how fresh faced we were.
A few months later we had brews in the tank and pints in hand. We were ready to unleash Powderkeg on the world!
Our early branding looked a bit different. It was also designed by Jem Panufnik, and featured our cool PK shield logo.
We held our launch party at the Oddfellows in Exeter, surrounded by friends, family, future customers, fellow brewers, the craft-beer curious, and few rugby players to round things off.
The first beers we brewed were Speak Easy and Cut Loose – still going strong today!
In the early days we’d take any help we could get, even child labour.
Eventually we progressed to adult employees, and finally we had a crew. We’d like to shout out to all the people who have worked for us along the way. Jack, Dan, Lance, Josh, Lewis, Bryn, Tom, Wayne and Lucy, we salute you all.
We also want to thank all of our customers – we’ve had some incredible support and we’re so grateful.
We hope you can join us for a birthday pint. Get your free ticket for a free pint here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/powderkeg-10th-birthday-tickets-1059752079999
